Abel Jackson - Mural for Grier Heights Community Center

Location: 3100 Leroy St, Charlotte, NC 28205
Completed: March 2022

ArtPop partnered with muralist Abel Jackson to create this mural for the Crossroads Cooperation and Grier Heights Community Center based on their mission "to revitalize the community with a constant focus on justice for our neighbors.” This project was commissioned by Lowe’s Home Improvement and the Charlotte Hornets Foundation.

The mural prominently features historic figures, a contemporary student at work, and the historic Billingsville Elementary School. Originally built in 1927 as a school for African-American students, the school building is located in Charlotte’s Grier Heights community and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Big thanks to Brooke Brown Photography for providing such wonderful documentation of this project!
