Laurie Smithwick - Sidewalk Mural for Anne O. Moffat Park

Location: Anne O. Moffat Park in SouthPark Charlotte
Completed: Summer 2023

In ArtPop Street Gallery’s 50th Completed Inspiration Project, the SouthPark Association of Neighborhoods (SPAN) commissioned ArtPop and Cities Program Class of 2020 artist Laurie Smithwick to dream up a mural that would compliment the new half-acer park’s lush green space, while adding a touch of color and whimsy!

Drawing inspiration from the spectrum of the park’s flora and seasonal plantings and feedback from Sharon Towers residents, Laurie designed the mural to be uplifting, fun, and colorful: A trail of chalk-like “bubbles” runs the entire length of the sidewalk, with a solid line bouncing through and around them, creating a path for parkgoers to follow and evoking a nostalgic callback to childhood memories of hopscotch and pavement drawings.
