BAE HART | Website | @_thebaehive_

“Over the past few years I’ve become extremely good at one thing, those are being a good human and taking a good picture. Well, that’s 2 things but I didn’t say I was good at counting.” As the owner of The Bae Hive Agency, Bae provides a comprehensive program of self-worth, well-being, and purpose by exposing youth to the creative arts from photography and film to art and illustration to foster healthy self-confidence and mental health with a primary focus on Black youth. Thus, her work emphasizes the need for Black representation across the world which lends to intentional inclusion and diversity in brand marketing and creative spaces.

BETHANY SALISBURY
Website | @bethanysalisburyart

Currently pursuing her MFA in Studio Art at Winthrop University, Bethany is turning her focus towards a higher calling and more personal art. Bethany’s work focuses on mental health and the non-human symbols used to explore our minds and the minds of others. Mental illness and mood disorders affect all societies and permeate every subgroup and class of people. She creates art that combines animal and plant symbols with research on both specific mental illnesses and mood disorders as well as on more universal mental struggles contemporary humans face. Thus, she opens up productive and destigmatizing dialogues about mental health and the way we view and treat ourselves and others.

BRIDGETTE MARTIN
Website | @bridgettefineart

Bridgette’s artful journey began the moment she could hold a paintbrush. She remembers swooshing watercolors on the sliding glass doors of her childhood home in the Midwest, always fascinated with the light found in nature. She knew “someday” she’d have to take the plunge into embracing art full-time, and it turns out “someday is now.” With her kids (sorely missed) out of the nest, Bridgette is boldly embracing this next path in life as unapologetically artistic.

CARY CALDWELL
Website | @caryel

”I grew up in a house with art all around me. My mother did everything and always had us try new ideas with her, my grandmother was a watercolor artist and my aunt is a portrait artist. I have been trying to find my niche for years which led me to try many mediums. I love quilting but needed to find an art that I can take on the go, as my boys are always playing sports. This is when I went back to my drawing days. I spend most of my time working with pen and ink. My last but not least love is glass. This again is something I can’t take on the go but I am completely addicted to the intense color glass has.”

LIZ HAYWOOD
Website | @lizhaywood

“In my life, I have often been called opinionated. In my art, I have always been called passionate. My lighthearted approach to tackling big issues keeps me hopeful and open, reducing the tension surrounding divisive subjects. Drips, splatters and rich texture in my art are created with layers of acrylic pen, latex, and spray paint. With confident, free gestural strokes, I build layers of texture. I use proximity to highlight the similarity of people with contrasting appearances. The repetition of figures ties them together visually creates a rhythm in my work. Full of vivid color and witty visual surprises, the goal of my art is to lift spirits.”

MARIA V. CAMPAGNA
Website | @mariavcampagna

Maria is also an avid gardener and loves planting flowers and veggies. She often writes letters to strangers complimenting them on their yard or telling them not to cut back certain plants. Her philosophy is that “a plant is going to do what it is going to do, if you don’t like the way it has evolved, then don’t plant it and try to make it fit your ideals - this is true for humans too!”

VEDA SARAVANAN
Website | @veda4art

”My art journey started at a young age when I started traveling, I am a self-taught artist. Traveling has become a part of my art culture and I truly enjoy exploring the world. My distinctive work and cultural upbringing allowed me to become the artist that I am today. People’s faces are very expressive and that is what has inspired me. I also love the usage of colors, the way I view the world is the way I come up with my color palette. I hope to continue to grow independently in my work as well as continue to contribute to Charlotte’s art community.”
